The Tokyo Skytree is a television broadcasting tower; but it’s also one of the city’s main landmarks and tourist attractions. At 634 meters tall, it’s the tallest structure in Japan. It’s impossible to miss the Skytree while walking around in nearby Asakusa - it seems to loom up at you between every other street.

The entry fee to the dizzyingly high two observation decks at 350 and 450 meters is, predictably, not cheap. You’ll have to decide if the 360 panoramic view is really worth your time. Bear in mind that you can’t see the Skytree while you’re standing on it - but you’ll see everything else in Tokyo, including Mt. Fuji on a clear day. It’s also a good place to watch firework displays during summer.

Alternatively, you could take photos of the Skytree instead. Some excellent spots to photograph the Skytree include the higher floors of the Bunkyo Civic Center, the Sky Room lounge in the Asahi Building, and the 24th floor of Tobu Hotel Levant Tokyo.

Besides stunning views, the Skytree also offers plenty in the way of shopping and entertainment for the casual visitor. It also has the Skytree Round Theatre, which hosts performances by the iconic Takarazuka Revue from time to time.
