Imahan

For some amazing sukiyaki - a simmered Japanese beef dish - be sure to visit Imahan on the 14th floor of Takashimaya Shinjuku.

“Sukiyaki” may be a Kyu Sakamoto hit song in the West; but in Japan, sukiyaki is a dish of Japanese beef cooked with vegetables in a sweet-salty soy sauce, served with raw egg for dipping. When made with top-notch ingredients, a sukiyaki meal can hold its own with the finest sushi or tempura dinners out there. Imahan’s sukiyaki certainly does.

Imahan is a reliable and excellent choice for sukiyaki, and has numerous outlets across Tokyo. The Shinjuku branch in Takashimaya Times Square is convenient for a break between shopping, and has some lovely views from the 14th floor to boot. You can choose from sukiyaki or shabu-shabu, but we strongly recommend the former. They even sell bottles of their sukiyaki sauce, which is a testament to how good it is. The raw egg is of course optional for squeamish diners, but it elevates the cooked beef to heavenly heights.

For an extra-special meal, we strongly suggest splurging on the beef. You’ll have an option of “quality beef” and “high quality beef.” While the former is tasty and easier on your wallet, the latter option will make this a meal to remember.
