If you’re looking for a mall in Shinjuku, head to Takashimaya Times Square. It’s a mammoth 16-storey building dedicated entirely to shopping. Over half of the building is the Takashimaya department store. Serious shoppers could spend an entire day or two here and still not be finished with what it has to offer - fashion for all genders, toys, fancy kitchen appliances and tools, glassware, sporting goods and more. The basement is home to one of the most extensively-stocked food halls in Shinjuku. Takashimaya Times Square also encompasses Kinokuniya, a bookstore chain with a great selection of books in English and a few other European languages; and Tokyu Hands, also known as a mecca for the DIY enthusiast.

Takashimaya also has a distinctly more upmarket sensibility that rivals a visit to Mitsukoshi in Ginza, as evidenced by the carefully curated brands and goods on sale. Luxury brands such as Hermes, Bottega Veneta, and Louis Vuitton have outlets here; and the kitchenware section, for instance, has a fine selection of exquisite hand-thrown ceramics and gorgeously painted porcelain ware. They are also very tourist-friendly these days, with attendants in red who speak English and Chinese. Tax refunds are easy, with instant cash back.

At Takashimaya Times Square, you’ll find everything you wanted, and even more that you didn’t know you wanted. Take a day out of your travels to get all your shopping done here. You won’t regret it.
