Hisago

Hisago is a good restaurant near Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Kodai-ji Temple and Ishibei-koji. It’s not much to look at, but the noodles and rice dishes are tasty.

The Higashiyama Sightseeing district is packed with beautiful temples and shrines, but strangely lacking when it comes to good places to eat. Sure, there are restaurants aplenty, but most of them are forgettable tourist traps. That’s why an honest, good-value noodle and rice joint like Hisago is such a welcome presence here.

There’s nothing fancy about this always bustling spot, but with an English menu and a staff of old ladies who don’t flinch at foreign guests, it’s a great place to fuel up when temple hopping in Southern Higashiyama.
