Shibuya Scramble Square

Named after the world’s most iconic pedestrian crossing, the 230 meter-tall Shibuya Scramble Square building towers over the trendy youth district. Head here for shopping and entertainment options galore, plus a fabulous panoramic view from the Shibuya Sky observation deck.

Towering above the area at 47 floors and 230 meters, the ultra-glitzy Shibuya Scramble Square is the latest addition to the buzzy youth district. This large-scale complex is named for the world’s most famous pedestrian crossing - the Shibuya Scramble - and is rather fittingly just a short walk away from it.

The first 14 floors above ground are dedicated to shops and restaurants - 213 of them - while floors 15 to 44 are mostly offices. We love the patisseries in the building, including Alain Ducasse’s specialty chocolate shop and Echire’s shop specialising in butter and buttery pastries. There’s also the Tsutaya bookstore, which doubles up as a free WiFi spot.

A special mention must go to Japanese craft purveyor Nakagawa Masashichi, the perfect store for souvenir shopping. Here, you’ll find crafts from all over the country ranging from hand-carved chopsticks to gorgeous ceramics to locally-made soy sauces.

But, if you visit just one place in the building, make it the Shibuya Sky observation deck. You enter on the 14th floor and take an elevator to the 45th floor. Enjoy the twinkling lights of Tokyo from behind glass windows on the 46th floor. Don’t forget to check out Paradise Lounge, a bar on the 46th floor designed by renowned British designer Tom Dixon.

Then, head to the outdoor deck on the 47th floor. If the stunning panoramic views aren’t enough, you can chill out on one of the sofas and hammocks on the artificial grass field, and enjoy the atmosphere. The view of the scramble crossing from this height is just incredible.
