Gamers, rejoice: Japan’s first official Nintendo store is now open in Shibuya Parco. Here’s where you can pick up all the coolest Nintendo swag, from Mario-themed cushions to Animal Crossing bento boxes.

Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Sonic the Hedgehog, Animal Crossing - these iconic games and their numerous sequels have won the hearts of millions worldwide. We don’t know why it took so long, but Japan finally has an official Nintendo store selling Nintendo merchandise, and it’s located in the brand-new Shibuya Parco shopping complex. Fittingly, it’s located in ‘Shibuya Cyberspace,’ the 6th floor pop culture hub also housing the Pokemon Centre.

Nintendo Tokyo is a gamer’s dream come true. Handsome life-sized statues of game characters like Link (of Zelda fame) and Princess Peach (from the Mario Bros. games) stand proud amidst aisles of themed merchandise.

In terms of Mario-themed merchandise, we love the big, squishy toadstool cushions, the denim overall totes, and little pouches emblazoned with all the characters. Who could resist a Legend of Zelda necktie or dress socks? Perfect when your work day needs enlivening. We love the fittingly cute and domestic Animal Crossing bento boxes and miscellaneous kitchenware. Plushies, notebooks, pens, dishwater, mugs, hand towels - it’s endless, and the only problem here is keeping your spending to reasonable levels.

True to form, Nintendo is so beloved that opening day saw a queue stretching from the shop entrance on the 6th floor all the way down to the ground floor! Luckily, you won’t have to wait quite that long, but be warned that there’s still a daily queue to get into the shop. Entry to the Nintendo Tokyo store is limited each hour as a form of crowd control - so it’s not that you can’t enter, but if you don’t have a ticket with a designated entry time on it, you’ll have to wait your turn. Sometimes the wait can be as long as an hour or two on busy days. The official Nintendo Tokyo Twitter account has daily updates on the queuing situation.

Luckily, it’s relatively easy (and free of charge) to pick up a Nintendo Tokyo ticket with a specified entry time. Head to the Spain Hill Entrance of Shibuya Parco (on the ground floor) at around 8:00am. You’ll see a few Nintendo staff members - they’re the ones wearing red coats. They start distributing tickets at this time. Yes, there will be a queue for these tickets. But you will be able to waltz right into the store at the appointed time without having to wait super long.
