Harajuku Taproom

A craft beer bar in Harajuku? It’s not as weird as it sounds: you’ll find excellent pints at Harajuku Taproom, and it’s a nice escape from the madness of Takeshita-dori Street nearby.

With many great craft beer bars and pubs out in the big city, Tokyoites are no strangers to excellent craft beer by now. Here’s another addition to the list: just off the congested candy-colored consumer capital of Takeshita-dori Street is Harajuku Taproom, a slightly incongruous but entirely delightful pub serving pints of excellent craft beer.

Harajuku Taproom is the second pub opened by Baird Brewing Company, a Shizuoka-based brewery headed by Bryan Baird. Whether you prefer light, dark, stouts, or IPAs, there’s something for everyone here, and they’re all uniformly good. You’d expect nothing less of a brewery.

In terms of food, Harajuku Taproom departs from usual pub fare like shepherd’s pie and offers a full-on yakitori menu instead, making this an entirely delightful pub-izakaya fusion.
