Orinasu Kan

The Orinasu-kan is a much better place than the Nishijin Textile Center to learn about the Nishijin district’s long history as Kyoto’s textile district.

While everything about the Nishijin Textile Center screams dated tourist trap, the Orinasu-kan is a much more tasteful affair, where the history of Nishijin weaving and textiles is presented in an atmospheric old Kyoto wooden workshop. When you visit, be sure to cross the street to visit the Susamei-sha building, in which a wide variety of finished kimono are on attractive display.
