Nene No Michi Lane

Nene-no-Michi Lane is a wonderful flagstone walkway that links some of the most important sights in the Southern Higashiyama area.

Named for the wife of the warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who was known as Nene, this flagstone walkway links Ninen-zaka and Sannen-zaka with attractions like Kodai-ji Temple and Maruyama-koen Park. While the odd taxi and rickshaw fights its way through the ambling masses of tourists, this is pretty much a pedestrian-only zone, making it the perfect place for a stroll, particularly during cherry blossom season (the path is lined with some fantastic cherry trees) and in the evening, when you’ll have the place to yourself.
