Tofuku Ji Temple

One of the most attractive temples in Kyoto, Tofuku-ji Temple also has the advantage of not being very crowded UNLESS you come during the fall foliage season.

Temple[Japanese zen garden of Tofuku-ji Temple]

We love the spacious grounds and fantastic subtemples at this walled in world of Zen in Southeast Kyoto. While all the temples further north will be crammed with sightseeing, this place can be practically abandoned. There’s only one exception: this is one of Kyoto’s most famous maple leaf viewing spots, so be prepared for enormous crowds during November. Whatever you do, don’t miss the Hojo Garden — each side is a different world.
