Koto Subtemple
- Kyoto
- 07 Apr, 2025
Koto-in Subtemple is probably the most atmospheric of the many great subtemples of Daitoku-ji Temple. The garden is highly recommended.
We talk about Daitoku-ji Temple, but like many Zen temples, it’s really more of a compound of several subtemples, and one of the real joys here is popping into several to find your favorite. And, Koto-in is probably my favorite subtemple at Daitoku-ji, especially when the fall foliage is working in November (the garden has some great maples). The scenic approach to this subtemple is one of the most photographed spots in the city and when you see it, you’ll know why. It’s on the west side of the Daitoku-ji compound — you might have to ask someone to point the way.
