Jingo Ji Temple

Easily one of the most beautiful temples in the Kyoto Area, Jingo-ji Temple makes the perfect half-day or day-trip out of the city.

This fine Shingon-shu Sect temple is one of our favorite trips out of Kyoto City proper. It’s located up a long flight of steps (you must surely gain some merit just by climbing these). Once at the top, you’ll find a huge compound of buildings and pagodas. Don’t miss the area where you do Kawarake-nage (a ritual in which you toss small clay discs to rid yourself of bad karma).
