Honke Owariya

This revered old soba restaurant is a good place to try Japan’s own noodle dish in atmospheric old Kyoto surroundings.

The wooden building here just screams “old Kyoto” and the soba is pretty good. It’s usually pretty busy here and service can be a bit brusque, but for a bowl of soba or some shrimp tempura in classical Japanese surroundings, this is a good bet when downtown.
