Hinode Udon Northern Higashiyama

Hinode Udon is a fine lunch restaurant near Nanzen-ji Temple and the Path of Philosophy. As the name suggests, udon noodles are the specialty of the house.

My father used to say that you can judge the quality of a diner by the number of trucks parked outside. Likewise, in Japan, a lot of taxis usually indicates good food and cheap prices — and the street in from of Hinode is almost always lined with taxis whose drivers are inside slurping down the reliably excellent noodles on offer.

Perfectly located for an exploration of the Northern Higashiyama district, Hinode is used to foreign guests and has even prepared an English menu to ease ordering. Note that most udon dishes can also be ordered with soba noodles instead.
