Yaesu Shopping Mall

Directly connected to Tokyo Station, the Yaesu Shopping Mall is one of the largest underground shopping malls in Japan. It’s a good place to wander around if you need to wait out a rainy spell.

The Yaesu Shopping Mall is more like a labyrinth of passages lined with around 180 shops. Walking around below ground towards the Yaesu side of the Tokyo Station and past the Daimaru food hall will eventually lead you here.

Unless you want to visit a specific shop here, this is not the most interesting place to be window shopping.

Most shops here are a mix of popular brands (like L’Occitane, Lush, The Body Shop, and Asics), shops selling dust-collector gadgets, and smaller ladies clothing boutiques whose clothes all look like they came out of the same neutral and floral-patterned factory. It is, however, convenient if you’re killing some time before your train to the airport.

An exception here is Liquors Hasegawa, which stocks a truly remarkable variety of shochu, sake, craft beers, whiskies, and other hard liquor. If you’re looking for bottles to stash in your suitcase, this is a fantastic place to do some booze shopping - and test a few cups out, too.

The best thing about the underground mall is that it’s useful for avoiding what’s above ground - clogged pedestrian paths, multiple traffic light crossings, and perhaps some heavy snow or rain - when you want to get to certain parts of Yaesu or Nihonbashi.

To this end, there are plenty of signposts indicating where you are in relation to the roads above and where you should go to get to, for instance, Yaesu Ni-chome. Look for the blue signs on the ceiling.
