Seirinkan

Made famous by Netflix’s Ugly Delicious, Seirinkan offers a selection of antipasto and pasta but just two pizzas: your choice of either Margherita or Marinara. A simple case of do one thing and do it damn well!

Pizza isn’t the first thing you might want to eat when you visit Tokyo. But you’d be missing out if you decided to skip it altogether.

For great pizza, we strongly recommend heading into the backstreets of Nakameguro around 11am. Here, you’ll run into a steadily building queue in front of an unassuming-looking restaurant. This is Seirinkan, which serves up one of the best pizzas you will ever eat in your life. Don’t just take our word for it; it was also featured on cult Netflix food show Ugly Delicious, which catapulted the restaurant to mainstream international fame. Not that the show changed anything, thankfully — the pizza remains just as good as it’s ever been.

Seirinkan is serious about their pizza. So serious, in fact, that they have just two choices of pizza - the margherita and the marinara. The wood-fired crust has a perfectly springy pull, with fine flecks of sea salt in every bite, so good you won’t want to leave any of the crust behind. Both pizzas are delicious, but if you like your pizza with a garlicky punch, the marinara is the perfect choice. The combination of sun-sweet tomatoes, garlic, and olive oil is quite unbeatable.

If you have the stomach space for two pizzas — you might, if you are very hungry — we recommend having both. Each pizza is fired to order, so you might wait a little for it to arrive. Have some antipasti in the meantime; the salads are light but delicious and flavourful, and the cheeses surprisingly decent for Tokyo.
