Japanese food is delicious, but there’s something inimitable about Indian food cravings that no amount of izakaya food can satisfy. Luckily, Tokyo these days has no shortage of great Indian restaurants. Priya is one of the North Indian cuisine stalwarts in the big city, and it’s been around for quite a while now - the quality of their food has withstood the test of time and picky Tokyo diners.

Local patrons extoll the virtues of Priya’s butter vindaloo, and their tandoor-grilled, ghee-smeared naan. The curries are generously portioned, and most importantly, authentically spicy. Many Indian restaurants in Japan tend to tone down the spice for Japanese consumers, so it’s always great to find a place that stays true to its roots.

The only downside is that ordering a la carte can be a little on the expensive side compared to an izakaya restaurant in the area. All chicken curries, for instance, will set you back JPY1600 per order. Still, eating here is a treat and the lunch sets are decent value for money. Visit Priya when nothing else but proper Indian food will do.
