Odakyu Department Store

One of the main shopping centers directly connected to Shinjuku Station is the Odakyu Department Store. You won’t even have to leave the building to shop.

Department stores are some of the best places to experience the heights of Japanese consumerism. Even better are department stores that are connected directly to station buildings - a lifesaver on a rainy day in Tokyo. One such place is the Odakyu Department Store. You can find pretty much anything you need at this massive complex, and you won’t even have to step outside of the station building to get all your shopping done.

The Odakyu Department Store is, unsurprisingly, owned by the railway company of the same name. It’s very conveniently located at Shinjuku Station’s west exit, turning commuters into shoppers. Luxury and small brands are represented in equal measure here, and while Odakyu tends to attract an older demographic, younger consumers will still find plenty to enjoy about shopping here.

Even with all the browsing, you won’t go hungry. This behemoth of a department store has a whopping 6 floors of restaurants (the 9th to the 14th floors) in its building, and a vast food hall filled with delicatessens and specialist food stalls in the second basement floor.

Like any good department store these days, many English and Chinese-speaking attendants are on hand to help translate and interpret. And, of course, there’s a handy-dandy tax refund service on the first floor.
