Swissotel Nankai Osaka

Towering over Nankai Namba Station, the Swissotel Nankai Osaka is a fine hotel right in the heart of the Minami action. Views from the rooms are stunning — taking in vast swathes of the Osaka/Kobe metropolis. There are some great on-site facilities and restaurants, as well.
Located in the heart of Namba, Swissotel Nankai Osaka is the 5-star luxury hotel for anyone who wants to be at the centre of all the entertainment, shopping, and dining action in this city. It’s attached to Namba Nankai Station, which makes transferring to and from Kansai Airport terrifically easy — just half an hour by rapid train — and there’s a plethora of shopping options right in Namba Parks below.
Rooms don’t come cheap, but they’re beautifully outfitted and larger than most hotels of this standard in Japan. However, the beds and pillows are on the harder side than most luxury hotels. Most Asian tourists will love the firmer beds, but everyone else, you’ve been warned! Swissotel also does not have a pillow menu, so you’ll just have to sleep on what you get.
There are a number of on-site restaurant dining options, but you may want to consider skipping them and taking advantage of all the fantastic izakaya and street food in the immediate vicinity instead. You will want to stay for breakfast — not because it’s particularly noteworthy, but because drinking coffee while gazing at panoramic views from the 36th floor is a great way to start the day.
International guests will find the additional daily charge to use the on-site gym and swimming pool rather frustrating and perhaps prohibitively expensive. However, know that this is common practice in Japan and there’s not much use railing against it!
While the service and facilities at the Swissotel Nankai are generally great, the hotel as a whole can perhaps feel slightly impersonal for some guests. That’s through no real fault of the efficient, English-speaking hotel staff: the direct connection to Namba Station makes this a popular choice with tourists, and there’s a more-or-less constant stream of guests with suitcases checking in and out daily. It does come with the territory, so if this bothers you, you might want to consider staying somewhere else.
