Remm Shin Osaka

Right at Shin-Osaka Station, this business hotel is definitely a step up from others in its class. It’s very comfortable, well-run and efficient. It’s the perfect choice if you need to stay near the bullet trains.

Remm
Shin-Osaka

Located right above Shin-Osaka Station, Remm Shin-Osaka is a well-run business hotel offering compact, comfortable rooms at fairly reasonable rates. Its name is derived from REM sleep, with the idea that you’ll get a comfortable night’s rest here. The staff here are friendly and helpful.

Remm’s air-conditioned rooms aren’t luxurious, but they are clean and modern, and provide everything you might need. The WiFi is fast and the room comes with nightwear, toiletries, and an electric kettle, among other things. Some might gripe about the lack of instant coffee in the room, but that’s not such a bad thing considering the environmental consequences! A real plus point is the safety deposit box to stash your valuables in while you’re out and about. Not all hotels rooms in Japan have one!

Remm is typical of a Japanese hotel in that the rooms here are quite compact, i.e. they are definitely on the smaller side. This is fine for solo travellers who travel light. But if you have more suitcases or you’re travelling as a couple, consider plumping for a larger room. Families might want to choose a different hotel.

They also have a massage chair in each room, and if you love that sort of thing, it’s a great feature. But if you’d rather have more space in your room instead of a bulky massage chair, you might also want to consider shelling out for a slightly more spacious room. Ask for a quiet room on one of the higher floors to get the best views in your price range.

While all the ensuite bathrooms come with rain showers, not all have bathtubs. If you’re particular about having a bathtub, make sure you check with the hotel at the time of booking. All bathrooms have large glass windows — all the better for you to enjoy views of the city from above as you shower!

If you want to be very near all the action and attractions downtown, Remm Shin-Osaka isn’t necessarily the best choice. The immediate area around the hotel and this station isn’t particularly interesting. But, it is a great base for exploring areas outside of Osaka, or if you just need an overnight stay near this station before departing the next day.

It is also a good choice if you’re travelling with a JR Pass. Day trips to Hiroshima or Kyoto are made extremely easy by hopping on the bullet train from Shin-Osaka Station, which is just a 4-minute walk from this hotel. Universal Studios Japan is also just 15 minutes away by train, so it’s pretty convenient if you’re visiting the theme park but don’t necessarily need to be in a hotel right in the Osaka Bay area.
