Onyado Nono Osaka Yodoyabashi

The Onyado Nono is a good Japanese-style hotel located in the convenient Yodoyabashi area. The main draw here is the “onsen” and the ryokan feeling throughout.

For many Kyotoites, Yodoyabashi serves as the gateway to Osaka, since the Keihan commuter line from Kyoto terminates here and it’s a short walk from here into the Kita district. The Onyado Nono has a good location here, very close to the Tosabori-gawa River. It’s a pleasant place to stay: It’s less crowded than other parts of town but it’s still quite convenient. And, you can jump on the Keihan limited express and be in Kyoto in less than an hour for a fee of about US$5.

The conceit of the Onyado Nono chain is that you’re staying in a ryokan, despite the place actually being a hotel. To this end, you remove your shoes as you enter (you’re provided with “tabi” socks for wearing in the hotel). Rooms are simple Japanese style and are fairly comfortable.

The highlight for most guests is the “onsen” (it’s not a real onsen, but it feels like one). It’s the perfect way to relax after a day of tramping around the city. So, if you’re looking for a change from standard hotels and you want easy access to both Kyoto and Osaka, give the Onyado Nono a look.
