Namba Oriental Hotel

Right in the heart of Namba, this well-located hotel is good value for money and the management tries very hard to please. There are endless dining and shopping spots nearby.

Namba Oriental
Hotel

Namba Oriental Hotel is located right in the heart of Namba. Rooms here are fairly basic but comfortable, with all the amenities you’ll need for staying a few nights. The entrance to the hotel is located in a covered shopping arcade, so if you’re arriving in a taxi, you’ll still have to walk a short distance. However, that’s a small price to pay for convenience. Plus, the hotel website provides clear instructions accompanied by photographs on how to find the hotel from the nearest subway station.

A nice touch at the Namba Oriental is its central courtyard and fountain, open only to guests. It’s a nice space to decompress over tea in between exploring the surrounding areas of Namba and Dotonbori, all of which can be a little overwhelming for first-time visitors!

Namba Oriental
Hotel

Like many hotels in Japan, Namba Oriental has strict policies on check-in times. Rooms are available to you at 3:00pm sharp, though if you’re desperate to get in earlier you’ll pay JPY1,000 per hour prior to the designated check-in time.

Don’t forget to specify a non-smoking room at the time of booking if you don’t smoke, because smoking rooms very obviously reek of cigarettes! Despite its location in a fairly crowded area, hotel rooms are quiet — a boon for light sleepers.

Breakfast isn’t included in the room price, but can be added to your booking for an additional fee. There are more Japanese than Western options in the buffet, and it’s not the best value around. It can also get pretty crowded in the morning. We suggest skipping breakfast in the hotel and eating at one of the cafes in the surrounding area instead. Kuromon Market isn’t too far away either!

Namba Oriental Hotel is just one of many places to stay in the area. Rooms are surprisingly spacious for the central and excellent location, and with endless dining and entertainment options right on your doorstep, this isn’t a bad choice for visitors at all.
