City Plaza Osaka

With friendly staff, a rooftop spa, and open-air hot spring baths free for guest use, City Plaza Osaka in Honmachi is a great little hotel in central Osaka.

Rooms at City Plaza Hotel are compact and cosy, which is to be expected of most Japanese hotels. However, all have ensuite facilities, and they’re clean and functional. The whole hotel is pretty new and modern, and come with all the amenities you might expect of a place like this, such as free and fast WiFi, a flat screen TV, and an electric kettle. Service is here is friendly and efficient, too.

We particularly like that this hotel has a rooftop spa with open-air hot spring baths. It’s free to use for hotel guests, and we recommend making full use of it at the end of every day - you’ll need it for unwinding after a long day of exploring and walking around Osaka!

What’s not free, however, is the heated indoor pool, sauna, or fitness room. It’s rare that hotels in Japan have these facilities at all, but just know that it’s par for the course to charge hotel guests a day rate if you want to use them!

City Plaza Hotel isn’t the most convenient if you want to be on the doorstep of all the action in Namba and Dotonbori. From the nearest subway station, Sakaisuji-Honmachi, you’ll most likely have to change trains whenever you’re travelling around Osaka city to various tourist destinations. This won’t prove much of an issue when the train system is this regular and efficient, but it may factor into your decision when choosing a place to stay.

Also, oddly enough, the hotel has a curfew of 1:00am for guests. If you plan on partying and staying out late, this place isn’t the best choice for you — they really do lock the doors! But for the amenities and price range, this is a nice choice for most travellers.
