Travelling to Tokyo with young kids in tow doesn’t have to be hard: it’ll be child’s play for parents at the Tokyo Toy Museum.

It can be hard for families with younger children to find places to visit that are both kid and adult-friendly. But the Tokyo Toy Museum is sure to delight both parent and child. With thousands of toys across three floors on display at the museum, children will have a fantastic day playing, while adults are more likely to marvel at the gorgeous design, craftsmanship and engineering of the various items. Japanese toys feature heavily, but there are plenty from other countries too, including Russian nesting dolls and more intellectual board games.

Fittingly enough, the premises of the Tokyo Toy Museum are in a former elementary school. Should you need help figuring out what some of the toys do, there are staff members - i.e. “toy curators” - on hand to show you how some toys work. Some rooms in the museum require you to remove your shoes, so it’s best to have footwear that’s easily slipped on and off. The museum is particularly fantastic saved for a rainy day on your travels when you need to entertain the kids indoors.
