Narita International Airport is surrounded by hotels and we’ve stayed in a lot of them. Here is our list of Narita’s best and most convenient hotels.

Narita Airport is about an hour outside of Tokyo, so if you’ve got an early departure or late arrival at Narita, you should consider staying in a hotel at or near the airport. There are two hotels on the airport grounds: one capsule hotel and one budget hotel. And just outside the airport perimeter, you will find a wide range of good hotels, and all of them offer free shuttles to/from the airport. Here are our favorite Narita Airport hotels.

Hotels at Narita Airport

As mentioned above, there are only two hotels on the grounds of the airport. These are convenient if you want to be within walking distance of the terminals and gates.

Nine Hours Narita Airport

(View on Booking.com or Agoda.com)
Located right inside Narita Terminal 2, this upscale capsule hotel is good if you want to be steps from check-in counters and don’t mind cramped accommodations. It’s clean and efficient and it can be a lifesaver if you just need a place to lay your head after/before a long flight. And, rates are very cheap.

Narita Airport Resthouse

(View on Booking.com or Agoda.com)
This is the only other accommodation right at the airport. You can walk to the terminals, but many people prefer the free shuttle bus. It’s pretty much your standard Japanese business hotel. Rooms are a little dated, but they’re quite spacious and perfectly acceptable for a night. Rates are at the upper end of the budget category.

Hotels Near Narita Airport

Narita Town is pretty far from the airport, so your best bet is to stay in one of the hotels located right outside the airport grounds. Fortunately, there are at least a dozen hotels right next to the airport grounds. There aren’t many restaurants or shops in this area, so you’ll want to eat at the airport or at the hotel restaurant. Here are our top picks, based on proximity to the airport, quality and value:

Hotel Nikko Narita

(View on Booking.com or Agoda.com)
This large and comfortable hotel is where we stay when we need to stay near the airport. Rooms are spacious and well kept. There’s an outdoor pool that’s open in warmer months. And, the restaurant has a chocolate fountain or mochi bar that the kids love. There’s a convenience store in the lobby that is open 24 hours. And, best of all, the rates are very reasonable.

Hotel Mystays Premier Narita

Another great choice just outside the airport grounds, the Mystays is a comfortable business hotel with some nice features like an indoor pool, a large sento-style bath and sauna (for a fee) and a decent restaurant. Rates are competitive.

Narita Tobu Hotel Airport

The Narita Tobu is a large hotel just outside the airport. Like the Mystays, there’s an indoor pool and a hot tub. Rooms are spacious and comfortable and the restaurant is perfectly adequate for a meal or two. It’s another good choice.

ANA Crowne Plaza Narita

With similar features and location to the above hotels, the ANA Crowne Plaza is yet another good choice for a night near the airport. The fitness center here is a little better than at the others, which might be decisive for fitness buffs.
