If you wander down a quiet side street in Awajicho, you might see a queue of office workers spilling out of the second floor of a tiny building and down the staircase into the streets. This is Kanda Yunrin, and it’s by far one of the best Chinese restaurants in the neighborhood.

Kanda Yunrin doesn’t have an ultra-narrow regional focus. They serve dishes from all over China, ranging from Sichuan to Shanghai. Fantastic mapo tofu and tantanmen set lunches can be had here for around JPY1000 or so.

While you can order three versions of multi-course meals - starting at JPY5000 per person - at dinner, there are plenty of a la carte options available. Unsurprisingly, it’s a fantastic place for business dinners or large gatherings, and the restaurant has a variety of quality teas, wines, and Chinese rice wines to help lubricate your gullets.
