Yellow Company

Soup curry joints are a dime a dozen in Tokyo these days, but Yellow Company in Ebisu sets itself apart from the rest by also serving gorgeous Hokkaido-grown vegetables. Make sure you try the pork belly and vegetable bowl — it’s a real treat!

We think soup curry is a perfect anytime dish. It’s hearty enough to warm you up in colder weather, but also light enough that it won’t weigh down on you during hotter seasons. Plus, it’s one of the best ways to get all your veggies while eating out in Tokyo. If you happen to find yourself around Ebisu, consider visiting Yellow Company for a taste of this Hokkaido speciality.

As with most soup curry places, you can customise your bowl at Yellow Company in a variety of ways, such as by choosing your soup base (tomato or prawn), the amount of rice, any extra toppings, and the spiciness of the soup. You can’t go wrong with some mozzarella cheese — that’s essential in our book.

Most of all, we love how interesting the meat and veg combinations are at Yellow Company. Sure, there’s the standard chicken and vegetable soup curry — but they also have one with stewed pork belly, stewed beef tendon (only available at this branch), and bacon and cabbage. The ‘Ebisu’ special soup curry is also worth looking into: a beautifully light, bouillabaisse-inspired version stuffed with large prawns, scallops, oysters, and white fish. For the uninitiated, Ebisu is also the god of fishing in Japanese mythology!

If you like soup curry or want a healthy meal with tons of fresh vegetables, it is worth making a trip to Ebisu to eat at Yellow Company. The menu is Japanese-only at this point in time, so we do recommend bringing a translation app of some kind to help you with the menu.
