Teppanyaki Grow

Watching teppanyaki chefs work their magic on the iron plate is always good fun, and Teppanyaki Grow in Ueno provides entertainment and great food.

Every neighborhood needs a good teppanyaki restaurant, and Ueno has Teppanyaki Grow tucked into its back pocket. There’s plenty in the way of wagyu beef here, and dinner can set you back a pretty penny. Lunch is more affordable, and a way to try out teppanyaki without breaking the bank.

Grow’s food is not Michelin-starred, but it’s tasty, solid cooking. The beef sushi is novel and fun to eat. Plus, the staff are lovely and there’s an English menu to see you through your meal.

Grow is a little difficult to find if you’re not looking for it. It’s on the second floor of a nondescript-looking building that seems to be full of private bars, and the door to the restaurant is equally unprepossessing. Go early for lunch if you can, since they seem to finish early.
