Muji Yurakucho

October 2022: Please note MUJI Yurakucho has now permanently closed and the flagship store can now be found at 3-3-5, Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, 104-0061. Please see our Ginza page for other places to shop in the district.

A short walk from Ginza is MUJI’s flagship store in Yurakucho. The largest MUJI store in the world, this is 3500 square meters of pure shopping paradise for fans of the no-logo brand.

Founded on the principles of design minimalism and emphasizing waste reduction, MUJI is globally famous for its ‘no-logo’ consumer goods. Fans of MUJI will not want to miss a shopping trip to its flagship store, where every single MUJI product in existence is sold.

Besides the full range of clothes, stationery, household goods and furniture, this store has a cafeteria-style dining space called Café and Meal MUJI, as well as a bakery. Both are on the slightly expensive side, but it’s all part of the MUJI shopping experience.

There’s plenty here that you don’t see in other MUJI outlets. For instance, there’s an entire pre-fabricated house on display. Of course, it’s outfitted entirely in MUJI products. If you happen to own some land in Japan, you can just buy the house.

Another is a retro-looking machine that dispenses little cups of espresso for JPY100. This is near the MUJI BOOKS section, which stocks mostly Japanese-language books. They even have a curated selection of 365 books - one for each day of the year - on a variety of fascinating subjects like maps, tea ceremony, and art. Naturally, even the books are a masterclass in beautiful design.

There is a small irony in a company preaching waste reduction having a store that encourages consumers to buy more of its goods. Still, MUJI products are incredibly well-designed, and it’s unlikely that you’ll need to replace them. Happy shopping!
