The Shinjuku outlet of Isetan styles itself as a Fashion Museum, and for good reason. Its frequently changing window displays are eye-catching and immensely creative, attracting visitors to come just to photograph the displays. But it’s just as attractive inside. Clothes horses will find plenty to love about the several floors of shoes, accessories, and clothes. And, simply wandering through the various floors of Isetan is a sensory experience that goes beyond shopping.

The main draw at Isetan is surely the depachika. Like most basement food halls, there’s a dizzying array of vendors covering a wide range of foods both sweet and savoury. Whether you’re looking for a matcha cream-filled eclair or a grilled soy-sauce chicken skewer or a particular kind of Spanish ham, chances are you’ll find it here. Not to be missed are the macarons at Sadaharu Aoki, which come in flavors such as black sesame, brown rice tea, and roasted tea. It’s a unique and delicious melding of Japanese flavors with French patisserie technique.

On the top floor of Isetan, you’ll find a rooftop garden where you can enjoy all the snacks and pastries you just purchased. Time it right and you’ll be able to catch a wonderful sunset.
