The Hotel New Otani Tokyo is a long-standing classic business hotel in the Akasaka political and business district. It’s old school Japanese style that calls to mind the heady days of the Bubble Economy. The Executive House Zen could be considered merely the New Otani’s club lounge premium floor, but it’s so different and so new that the hotel is branded as a separate hotel and we think this is merited. It really is a separate world within the large Otani Hotel.

The Executive House Zen occupies two of the upper floors of the main building of the New Otani. This means that the views from the rooms are excellent, especially since this corner of Tokyo is filled with green spaces like the Akasaka Palace and Shinuku Gyoen Garden. And, right on the premises of the New Otani is an incredible Japanese garden and waterfall. We really like this location since it feels like a refuge from the crowds that plague other parts of the city. A taxi will get you to most parts of the city in less than 20 minutes, and Yotsuya Station (on the JR Chuo Line) and several subways stations are within walking distance.

As you’d expect, the real selling point at the Executive House Zen is the service. Check in is handled in the Zen lounge and is efficient and warm. Best of all, all guests of the Executive House Zen have 24-hour access via a “hotline” in the room to English-speaking concierges who can help with restaurant reservations etc. The rates here are competitive with those of the international luxury brands in Tokyo. Given the close personal service and peaceful central location, we rate the Executive House Zen as one of the best hotels in Tokyo.
