The London Eye is one of the UK’s best-known attractions, but fewer people know that it was built after the Sky Wheel in Odaiba which opened to the public early in 1999.

The Sky Wheel is 115 meters tall, and is the second tallest in Japan still in operation. (The tallest is in Osaka.) More importantly, it’s adjacent to Venus Fort, an outlet mall where you can do all your shopping. Riding the Ferris wheel afterwards is like a final hurrah to a day out in Odaiba.

A ride on the Ferris wheel lasts 16 minutes and costs JPY1000. This may or may not be a little steep depending on your point of view, but you will get some fantastic sweeping views of the Tokyo metropolitan skyline, from Haneda Airport to Rainbow Bridge to Tokyo Tower and the Sky Tree.
