Davids Deli

David’s Deli in Shinagawa has been serving Tokyo’s tiny Jewish community for years with their excellent Israeli food and Jewish cuisine. Luckily, you don’t need to keep kosher to eat there.

While it’s not certified kosher, David’s Deli in Mita is one of the very few places in Tokyo where you can eat tasty, authentic Jewish and Israeli food. All the usual favorites are on the menu here: hummus, falafel baba ghanoush, gefilte fish, hummus, schnitzel, stuffed vegetables, Israeli salad, pita bread. And on cold, lonely days, there are few things more warming than a bowl of chicken and matzo ball soup.

David’s Deli even does fresh bagels. They’re not exactly New York bagels, but we have very little cause to complain. You can get them plain, but also with poppy seeds, basil, sesame, and cinnamon raisin. All you need now for a New York breakfast at home is some lox and cream cheese.

David’s Deli is a short walk from Shirokane-Takanawa Station, or a short bus ride from Mita Station and Tamachi Station (take the 田87 bus from Tamachi Station, a few seconds walk from exit A7 of nearby Mita Station).
