Shuhari

Shuhari is a soba specialist that’s not too far from Osaka Castle Park - their soba and tempura are solid and well-made. The fresh wasabi, which you grate yourself, is a really nice touch. Look for the wooden steps at the entrance. Recommended!

After spending some hours walking around Osaka Castle Park, it’s nice to get away from everyone for a spot of lunch. We like heading over to Shuhari, a charming soba noodle restaurant located three minutes away from Tanimachi-Yonchome Station. It’s about a 10-minute walk from the southwest side of Osaka Castle Park.

It’s not a tiny hole in the wall - this restaurant seats about 40, and while we wouldn’t recommend going with huge groups, you shouldn’t have too much difficulty getting a table for 4. It’s quite serene inside, and pleasant to slurp soba noodles and tempura here.

In addition to soba noodles, they also serve a variety of small Japanese dishes you can order alongside - and we’d recommend ordering several to try and share. There’s simmered aubergines and chicken liver (not in the same dish), Japanese-style omelette, marinated squid, and satsuma-age tofu. It’s all tasty and reasonably priced. Don’t expect life-changing noodles, but it will be a decent, above-average meal.

Note that while smoking is allowed at dinnertimes, it is entirely non-smoking at lunchtimes.
