Shinkawa Nishiya

What’s not to love about a seafood izakaya like Shinkawa Nishiya? It’s centrally located smack in the middle of Namba, the food is great and reasonably priced, the drinks are good, and best of all, it’s open until 5:00am.

Shinkawa Nishiya is one of Osaka’s well-loved izakaya, and it’s not hard to see why. Like any seafood izakaya worth its salt, it has a great selection of sake, and an ever-changing menu of daily seasonal specials. The sashimi is always fresh and delicious here; try ordering the Otsukuri no Moriawase (mixed sashimi) for two. At just JPY1000, it’s a great way to sample a variety of fresh fish you might not normally order. If raw fish doesn’t float your boat, the grilled and simmered fish are great too. When it’s in season, the kinmedai (Splendid Alfonsino) is particularly worth ordering.

Besides fish, there’s plenty on the menu to please most diners. Try the creamy potato salad with a soft-boiled egg on top (a pairing of sheer culinary genius), grilled avocado with mentaiko mayonnaise (pure flavour), pumpkin grilled with cheese and tartar sauce, and deep-fried chicken or lotus root.

The best part? Nishiya is centrally located in Namba, and it’s open from 5:00pm to 5:00am. Fo if you’re jet-lagged, feeling the midnight munchies, or just need more food after a night of drinking and partying, this izakaya will be open for all your gustatory needs. You can probably just stumble back home to your hotel right after. If you’re going earlier in the evening at more respectable hours, though, we suggest making a reservation here - it’s super popular!
