For a truly special Japanese-French dinner that’s worth the money and the Michelin stars, look into snagging a reservation at the hallowed La Cime in the Hommachi district. Chef Yusuke Takada’s creations will make for a dinner to remember.

La Cime is headed by the young and talented Chef Yusuke Takada, who trained at legendary restaurants Taillevent and Le Meurice in France. With two Michelin stars to his name, it’s no surprise that La Cime draws chefs and gourmands who fly in from all over the world to taste his creations.

Think exquisitely plated, highly seasonal, modern Japanese-French small dishes with multiple components to them. There might be some foam involved. Don’t expect anything too straightforward, but do expect well-calibrated and unexpected flavours that just work well together. One tip: if you do order wine with your meal, order it by the bottle rather than by the pour. A single pour of 30ml of wine at JPY2500 is just a little too parsimonious, even by Michelin starred standards!

His signature dish is the “Boudin Dog,” a stylish mashup of boudin noir (blood sausage) and a hot dog, painted black with edible bamboo charcoal. In a nod to his roots, Chef Takada also likes incorporating ingredients from his birthplace into his food, such as citrus endemic to Amami Oshima, or black Satsuma chicken from Kagoshima prefecture.

La Cime is already a sublime one-time experience, but if you’re a repeat visitor, the kitchen will modify the menu so that you’re never eating the exact same dishes twice. What a way to maintain the magic of the dining experience here!
Not surprisingly, a meal here is expensive (around JPY20,000), and you’ll have to book well in advance. La Cime is the kind of restaurant you start planning for months ahead of time. It’s probably easiest to ask your hotel concierge to make the booking for you.
