Captain Kangaroo

A great foreigner-friendly bar on the north edge of Kita-Shinchi, this is a good spot to grab a drink, eat a hamburger and meet some locals and local expats.

The Kita-Shinchi district is home to all manner of high-end restaurants. But sometimes, you just want a casual, down-to-earth joint where you can mingle with the locals over a drink or two. Captain Kangaroo is just the place for you - this bar is a great spot for beer, burgers, and banter.

This dimly lit bar is a popular hangout spot with Japanese locals and expatriates alike. They have a selection of 50+ beers from all over the world , and happy hour is the best time to go for discounts on food and drinks. The food here is simple pub grub. Think classic dishes like burgers and fries or fish and chips. They’re solidly executed and are fantastic if you’re craving non-Japanese fare.

The English-speaking staff at Captain Kangaroo are an affable bunch, happy to help with any recommendations and questions you might have about the city. In the evenings, the atmosphere is lively and it’s a great place to strike up some conversations. You’ll probably end up making a friend or two!
