Udon Shin

Popular with locals and tourists alike, Udon Shin is a little retaurant in Shinjuku serving some of the best wheat noodles in the area. Their signature ‘carbonara udon’ is highly swoon-worthy, but the tempura udon is pretty good too.

Udon generally has a more down-to-earth vibe about it, but it can be pretty refined too. Udon Shin in Shinjuku is a favourite with tourists and locals alike. It’s reputedly one of the best in the area. One taste of their noodles says it all.

The noodles at Shinjuku’s Udon Shin, made in-house, are beautiful to behold. They arrive in front of you in a tight, elegant coil, like braided rope. It’s almost too pretty to eat!

Their signature ‘carbonara udon’ is a favourite with diners, and it’s not hard to see why. Thick, slurpable wheat noodles coated with gooey soft-boiled egg, parmesan, butter, and black pepper, topped with a slab of bacon tempura — who among us non-vegetarians could dislike a dish like this? There are plenty of other choices on the menu, ranging from tempura to simmered beef.

The only downside, perhaps, to enjoying lunch at Udon Shin is the queue. Luckily, noodles don’t take that long to eat, and turnover is fairly quick. Turn up early and you should be fine.
