Komatsu Ryokan
- Tokyo
- 15 Jun, 2025
This tiny ryokan is incredibly convenient for budget travellers touring Ueno. The only downside is the shared bathroom facilities and just one shower - but the warmth and hospitality more than make up for this.
[Komatsu Ryokan]
Located between Inaricho and Shin-Okachimachi subway stations, Komatsu Ryokan is conveniently located for anyone wanting to explore Ueno and downtown Tokyo. It’s a family-run inn with a homey feel and welcoming staff. They might not speak much English, but their hospitality and warmth shine through.
With just a 12-guest capacity, this inn is unabashedly tiny. However, the Japanese-style rooms are impeccably clean, with numerous thoughtful touches, such as green tea and a kettle, and a clothesline for anyone wanting to hang their laundry inside each room. It’s no surprise that the inn is popular with budget travellers, especially from Asian countries.
The downside here is that there’s only one shower and bathroom, which Komatsu is upfront about. The staircase leading to the second floor is also rather narrow, so if you have large suitcases we’d suggest avoiding this inn. However, if you travel light with just a small carry-on or a backpack, staying here is an entirely adequate and very cheap option.
