Coconut curries aren’t very common in Tokyo, but one place that does them well in the city is Chantoya Coconut Curry in Jimbocho. Located down a quiet street near Ochanomizu, this sleek, chic cafe serves some excellent coconut curries.

The classic Chantoya curry contains chicken, aubergines, and mushrooms, but you can take your pick from around 25 different versions, ranging from shrimp and pumpkin to broiled cheese. You can adjust the spice level to your liking too.

It comes with rice on the side, but if for some reason you need to forgo the white rice and just have the curry, they’ll take JPY100 off the sticker price. They also ask that you warn them if you don’t like coriander - each order is topped with a little chopped coriander. If you’re a student, show your ID when you order and you can get a small drink or additional topping at no extra cost.
They’re open outside of lunch hours, so you could stop by for a very late lunch even after 3pm. A take-out window makes picking up lunch easy for people in a hurry, and if you don’t want to leave your apartment, just call them - they have delivery options available now.
