Mandara

Jimbocho is famous for two things: bookstores and curry. After book shopping in Jimbocho, fortify yourself with some fabulous keema and chicken curry at underground Indian restaurant Mandara.

Most bibliophiles visit Jimbocho Book Town to while away the hours exploring the neighborhood’s numerous bookstores. But in between, you need a hearty meal to fuel all the wandering. Jimbocho is famous for curry restaurants, and a good place to grab one is at Mandara, an underground Indian restaurant.

Mandara won the 2012 Kanda Curry Grand Prix. All that means is you are guaranteed some fabulous curry. Try the keema or chicken butter masala curries here. They’re incredibly moreish, especially when you mop up the sauce with their superb naan and chapati breads.

One small downside here is that they serve Japanese rice instead of basmati rice - sticky rice doesn’t go quite as well with Indian curry as fragrant basmati. Still, that’s a small niggle in what is ultimately a very tasty curry experience in Jimbocho.
