If you’re looking for something better than fast food while in Shin-Osaka, try this approachable little contemporary restaurant. They serve a variety of meat and fish dishes, along with rice, vegetables and salad. There’s an English sign and menu.

If you’re in Shin-Osaka Station with a little more time to enjoy a proper sit-down meal, hop over to Yanaken Boo. This friendly little restaurant on the 3rd floor on the Hankyu Building specializes in Tosa cuisine from Kochi prefecture. In short, that means fabulously fresh seafood and well-cooked, home-style dishes.

One of their specialties is katsuo, or skipjack bonito. Fish lovers will want to try the set lunches featuring this meaty fish. There’s nama katsuo no shio tataki teishoku - thick slices of skipjack bonito sashimi with salt and wasabi - or the katsuo duke-don teishoku, a set meal of soy-marinated bonito on rice. Either option makes a nice, satisfying lunch.

It’s not all about the fish. Other options include chicken nanban (deep-fried vinegared chicken), steak, and sushi sets, so there’s something for everyone here. Yanaken Boo is a great choice for lunch or dinner if you’re not keen on venturing far from the station.
