The St Regis Osaka

Somewhere between an ultra-luxe hotel and a boutique hotel, the St. Regis is an immaculate hotel right in the heart of Honmachi, just steps from Honmachi Station. It’s a great hotel for discerning travellers accustomed to more luxurious stays.

The St. Regis
Osaka

Located directly above Exit 7 of Honmachi Station, the St. Regis Osaka is more or less what you would expect of a 5-star hotel brand of its stature. Rooms are contemporary and comfortable, with floor-to-ceiling windows, the usual well-stocked minibar, and a Nespresso coffee machine. A hot bath at the end of the day is made even better with the marble tub, 4 body jets, and a built-in LCD television. There’s even a rooftop Japanese garden to stroll through, and the French restaurant is reasonably priced, which is more than can be said for similar hotels in the city.

It’s centrally situated: Shinsaibashisuji Arcade is right at the hotel’s doorstep; the Dotonbori area is just a 15-minute walk away; and Osaka Castle is a 10-minute taxi away. 30 minutes on the train will have you at Universal Studios Japan. The St. Regis is in Osaka’s business district, and consequently can feel a little like it caters more to high-end business travellers. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing as the location above all pays off.

The St. Regis
Osaka

As expected of the St. Regis brand, service here is friendly, extremely helpful, and professional. The butler service puts St. Regis a notch above other hotels of this stature in Osaka; otherwise, there is less to really distinguish it from other luxury hotels.

Though hotels in Japan typically don’t have great gym facilities if any, the St. Regis Osaka is typical of its worldwide branches. The gym might be small, but it’s well-equipped and runs 24/7. The diverse cardio setup, 4 resistance machines, and free weights up to 20kg will be just right for most gym rats. A small downside is that there’s no bathroom.

Families are also well-catered for here: each floor has a pair of interconnecting rooms which you should request in advance.

Location-wise, it’s excellent if you’re going to explore Osaka for a few days, as you can travel to most attractions on the subway from Honmachi Station. However, if you’re going to be using Osaka as a base for day trips to other cities like Kyoto and Nara, it’s more convenient staying at another hotel in the vicinity of JR Osaka Station. From the St. Regis, you’ll have an additional subway ride each morning for the day trip.
