Kintetsu Department Store

Visiting Abeno Harukas for the spectacular views? Pair it with a shopping trip to Kintetsu Department store, a 16-floor consumer extravaganza located in the same building. Tax exemption counters, English and Chinese-language support, and free WiFi make this a convenient place to get all your shopping done.

Osaka is popularly known as the city of kuidaore, or eat until you fall over. But these days, it’s equally feted as a shopping destination for travelers in the Asian region. A great place to pack in all the shopping is at the Abeno main store of the Kintetsu Department Store.

In terms of brands and items stocked, it’s not vastly different from most quality department stores such as Takashimaya, Mitsukoshi, and Isetan. Where the Kintetsu Department Store stands out is in sheer quantity - few other department stores can claim 13 floors of shopping and 44 restaurants across 3 floors.

They’ve also gone to great pains to make shopping as tourist-friendly as possible. Non-Japanese speakers are well-catered for, with English, Chinese and Korean-speaking staff on hand. Other useful services at the Foreign Customers Salon include free WiFi (a boon for those without roaming), tax-free shopping (a straightforward procedure as long as you have your passport), luggage storage (for fuss-free shopping), and even overseas delivery for purchased items.

All this makes the Kintetsu Department Store a decent place to scratch your shopping itch if you’re in the area. At the very least, it’s worth having a quick gander if you’re heading up to check out the panoramic view from the top.
