Green Earth

Green Earth is one of Osaka’s longest-running vegetarian restaurants. Its enduring popularity is no surprise: the mostly vegan food is delicious, the staff are friendly, and dining there is an altogether pleasant experience!

Green Earth was one of very first vegetarian restaurants to open its doors in Osaka. Since 1991, it’s been serving up healthy, inexpensive vegetarian and vegan fare to locals and local expats alike. Most of seasonings and components, including the bread, are made in-house without added MSG or preservatives - a boon for anyone trying to eat more healthily.

You won’t find anything too surprising on the menu. Green Earth serves primarily Western-style vegetarian and vegan fare, running the gamut from cashew cheese pizza, deep-fried “chicken,” and meatless “hot dogs.” Soy meats do feature heavily, but you can just have something simple like a hummus sandwich, too.

A better choice if you want to go for something more local and Japanese is the curry, made without any alliums - making it Jain-friendly in addition to being vegetarian! It’s chock-full of vegetables like eggplants, beans, mushrooms, and soy meat, and ordering brown rice alongside makes it a pretty healthy and hearty lunch. The soy milk cheesecake here is a favourite with many customers, too.
Meat eaters are unlikely to really want to eat here if given the choice, but if you’re vegetarian, it’s a perfectly decent option out here in Osaka. The English menu makes ordering easy, and its central location makes it a good lunch stop between sightseeing.
